What the app needs
ChocolateBar is a universal binary. One download runs natively on Apple Silicon and on Intel Macs. The download is about 5 MB.
The only permission it asks for is Accessibility. That is how it reads and clicks your menu bar items. It never asks for Screen Recording.
macOS 26 Tahoe
Support for macOS 26 Tahoe is coming soon. Until then, the app runs on macOS 12 Monterey through macOS 15 Sequoia.
macOS 27 Golden Gate
Apple released macOS 27 Golden Gate on 14 September 2026. It runs only on Macs with Apple Silicon. MacRumors (10 September 2026) and 9to5Mac (9 September 2026) both reported the Apple Silicon requirement. So Intel Macs stop at macOS 26 Tahoe.
macOS 27 is not supported yet.
On macOS 27, Apple added an overflow button (»). It shows the menu bar icons that the bar has no room for. On macOS 12 to 15 there is no built-in way to reach those icons. The app fills that gap: it shows them in a second row under the menu bar.
Intel Macs
An Intel Mac runs the app on macOS 12 Monterey, 13 Ventura, 14 Sonoma, and 15 Sequoia. The Intel Mac guide covers the details. The macOS Ventura guide covers Monterey and Ventura.
