A menu bar manager for macOS Ventura
ChocolateBar for Mac runs on macOS 13 Ventura. If you are looking for a menu bar manager, or a Bartender alternative, and the Mac is still on Ventura, this is the supported range it sits in.
macOS Ventura is still a normal place for a menu bar to fill up. VPN clients, chat, password managers, and the rest do not care which year the OS was released. What they need is a menu bar manager that actually runs on that Mac.
ChocolateBar for Mac does. The supported range is macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, and macOS 15 Sequoia, on both Intel and Apple Silicon. macOS 26 Tahoe support is coming soon. Tahoe is not supported yet, and nothing older than Monterey is supported either.
What it does on Ventura
It is the same app as on Sonoma or Sequoia.
- Hide menu bar apps that are crowding the bar. Enable Hide Menubar Items adds a boundary and tucks every menu bar app to its left behind it. Apple's own menu bar icons are off by default.
- Or show those apps at full size in a second row under the menu bar. The row opens with ⇧⌘B or a click on the ChocolateBar icon.
- Click an icon in the row and ChocolateBar clicks the real menu bar item. It uses Accessibility permission only. It does not ask for Screen Recording.
Running apps can share that row, one chip per app. That section is off by default (Settings > General > Show running apps, or ⌃⌘S).
A Bartender alternative on Ventura
Bartender is the name most people search when the menu bar is full. ChocolateBar is a Bartender alternative for the case where you still want to see the icons, not only hide them. Ice and Thaw are free and open source if price is the deciding factor. Hidden Bar and Dozer are simpler hiders. Each comparison:
If the Mac is Intel, the Intel page is the same support statement from that side. If the problem is specifically icons under a camera housing, use the notch guide.

Questions people ask
Does ChocolateBar work on macOS Ventura?
Yes. macOS 13 Ventura is inside the supported range, which is macOS 12 Monterey through macOS 15 Sequoia. That includes Sonoma and Sequoia. macOS 26 Tahoe support is coming soon. macOS 11 Big Sur and earlier are not supported.
Is there a Bartender alternative for macOS Ventura?
ChocolateBar for Mac is one. It hides menu bar apps or shows them full size in a second row that opens with Shift-Command-B or a click on the ChocolateBar icon. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. See the Bartender comparison for how the two differ.
Does it also run on macOS Monterey?
Yes. macOS 12 Monterey is the oldest version ChocolateBar supports. The same build runs on Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia, on Intel and Apple Silicon.
My Ventura Mac has no notch. Will icons still disappear?
Yes, once the menu bar has more apps than fit. The notch makes that happen sooner on a 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro. On a Ventura iMac, Mac mini, or notch-less MacBook, icons fall off the edge of a full bar instead. The second row shows them either way.
